10 Night Southern Caribbean Cruise From $399 Onboard Norwegian Sun

A few weeks ago, we featured an 11 night Southern Caribbean cruise onboard the Norwegian Sun and stated it may be the best deal on a Southern Caribbean itinerary out of Florida you’re going to see this year. Well, Norwegian Cruise Line has stepped it up a bit since then.

Same home port of Miami. Same ship. Slightly different cruise. On March 17, 2014, Norwegian Sun embarks on a 10 night Southern Caribbean cruise. We said the 11 night cruise on March 6 was a steal at $469 per person. Well, the 10 night on March 17 can be had for as low as $399 per person, based on double occupancy.

This is an awesome deal for two. However, if you have kids aged seventeen or under, you may want to wait for the April 7 sailing for the same itinerary. Norwegian has just announced a ‘Kids Sail Free’ campaign. The 10 night Southern Caribbean cruise on April 7 is about $25 per person higher but you can take your kids along for just the cost of the taxes ($117.90 per person for this cruise). Norwegian has applied this special to around 250 different cruises over the next year but you must book before March 31, 2014.

For more information, check out this article with a case study comparing the pricing with and without the deal: Norwegian Kids Sail Free

The Cruise

Norwegian Sun embarks from Miami, Florida on a ten night Southern Caribbean cruise, leaving Monday March 17, 2014 at 4pm. She returns to Miami on Thursday, March 27 at 8am. Along the way, Sun makes five port calls. The five port days are consecutive with two full days at sea before and after.

Sun docks at Charlotte Amalie on the island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands on Thursday, March 20 from 8am to 5pm. The following day, she moves south to Roseau, Dominica. She is at Roseau from 9am until 5pm.

Bridgetown, Barbados is the third stop. Norwegian Sun is docked at Bridgetown on Saturday, March 22 from 8am until 5pm. She makes her last true Southern Caribbean port call the following day at Castries, St. Lucia from 8am until 5pm. The final stop is at Philipsburg, Sint Maarten on Monday, March 24. St. Maarten is a pivot point in the Caribbean and is included in Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean itineraries. She is docked at Philipsburg from 9am until 5pm.

When comparing to the 11 night Norwegian Sun Southern Caribbean itinerary, there are the same number of port calls with Bridgetown and St. Thomas showing up on both. On the 11 night, Sun also stops at Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curacao and Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

The Price

An inside stateroom can be had for as low as $399 per person, based on double occupancy. There is $117.90 per person in government fees and taxes tacked on, no matter the level of stateroom. The total for two for an inside cabin, including taxes, starts at $1,033.80.

Other levels of stateroom include ocean view starting at $799 per person, cabins with a balcony starting at $899 per person and suites starting at $1,849 per person. The military discount can be a real advantage on some cruises but on this itinerary, it results in just $30 off per person.

The Ship

Norwegian Sun is one of two Sun Class ships in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. The other is Norwegian Sky, the older sister that was put in service in 1999. Sun was put in service in 2001 and was last refurbed in 2011.

This may have been a large ship in 2001 but is now closer to a medium sized boat. Norwegian Sun has a gross tonnage of 78,309 with a length of 258 metres or 848 feet. There are 13 decks accessible to passengers. The ship has a capacity for 2,002 guests, based on double occupancy. There are typically 968 crew members on board.

From Just $31 Per Night To Cruise New Orleans To Barcelona!

The deals just don’t get much better than this! Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas heads out of New Orleans, Louisiana on Saturday, April 26, 2014 for a 16 night cruise across the Atlantic Ocean to Barcelona, Spain. Serenade makes four great port calls along the way. An inside cabin on the ship can be had for as low as $31 per night per person before taxes. Don’t let the taxes scare you – it’s just $65 per person for the entire cruise.

The Cruise

Serenade of the Seas embarks on her 16 night Transatlantic Repositioning cruise from New Orleans at 5pm on Saturday, April 26, 2014. She arrives at her summer home of Barcelona, Spain on the Mediterranean at 6am on Monday, May 12. Along the way, Serenade makes four amazing stops.

After four full days at sea, crossing the Gulf of Mexico and skimming across the top of Cuba, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, Serenade of the Seas makes her first port of call at Philipsburg on the island of Sint Maarten. She is docked on the Dutch side of the island shared with France from 7am until 5pm.

After six more full days at sea, next up is the island of Tenerife. This dot in the Atlantic Ocean belongs to Spain and is the largest of the seven Canary Islands. Serenade stops at Tenerife from 7am until 3pm on Thursday, May 8.

There’s one last full day at sea between Tenerife and Malaga on the mainland of Spain. Serenade of the Seas arrives at Malaga on Saturday, May 10. Malaga is a nice long stop with the ship docking at 10am and not leaving port until 8pm. In contrast, the final port of call is much shorter with the ship arriving at Cartegena, Spain at 7am on Sunday, May 11 and leaving in the early afternoon at 2pm.

The Price

Right now, an inside stateroom can be had for as low as $489, based on double occupancy. With the $65 in government fees and taxes tacked on, the total price for two is as low as $1,108 for the entire 16 night cruise.

The pricing on upgraded staterooms moves up pretty fast. An Ocean View cabin starts at $609 per person while a balcony will increase the price to $1,199 per person and an suite starts at $2,289 per person.

This special rate trumps all other discounts. It is so low that there is no added advantage for military, police and fire or seniors.

The Ship

Serenade of the Seas is a Royal Caribbean Radiance Class ship built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. The ship made her maiden voyage in August, 2003 and is a decent sized vessel. Serenade has a gross tonnage of 90,090 and is 293 metres or 962 feet in length. There are 12 decks accessible to the capacity 2,490 guests. Typically, there are 891 crew members onboard.

Serenade is currently alternating between seven night Bahamas and seven night Western Caribbean itineraries out of her winter home port of New Orleans. Once in the Mediterranean, Serenade will mostly run 12 night cruises out of Barcelona over the summer months.

However, if you can make it to New York City and get on the Norwegian Gem by Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 4pm, you will definitely enjoy a great cruise at a great price.

Norwegian Gem embarks from New York City at 4pm on Saturday, February 8, 2014 on a nine night Eastern Caribbean cruise. She arrives back in NYC at 10:00am on Monday, February 17. Along the way, the ship makes four port calls with one being rather unique to the Eastern Caribbean cruising world.

After two full days at sea, sailing away from winter, Norwegian Gem makes her first stop on Tuesday, February 11 at San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is docked in the Puerto Rican capital from 3pm until 9pm. The following day, it’s a short trip over to Philipsburg on the island of Sint Maarten. Gem enjoys her longest day in port here, docked from 8am until 6pm.

For Thursday, February 13, Gem shifts over to the island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The ship will dock at the cruise port in St. Thomas Harbor at Charlotte Amalie from 8am to 5pm.

On her final port of call, Gem visits a location better known to the All-Inclusive Resort crowd and windsurfing enthusiasts. From 8am until 4pm, the ship is parked at Samana, Dominican Republic on Friday, February 14 – Valentine’s Day. On Eastern Caribbean itineraries in 2014, just Norwegian Gem, Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas and the Silversea Silver Spirit use Samana as a port of call.

The Price

Act fast and get an inside cabin for just $449 per person, based on double occupancy. Government fees and taxes are an additional $171.86 per person, bringing the total for a inside stateroom for two to $1,241.72 for this nine night journey.

Other levels of stateroom are also decently prices. An Ocean View cabin starts from $529 per person. A stateroom with a balcony starts at $899 per person. If you are or have been a member of the Canadian or U.S. armed forces, there is an additional discount of $20 person. New England residents get that same discount.

Go On A Transatlantic Adventure With Royal Caribbean From Just $699

15 bars, clubs and lounges onboard Adventure of the Seas should keep passengers comfortable during a 14 night Transatlantic Repositioning cruise embarking from Miami, Florida on Sunday, April 20, 2014. Unique with this cruise is the three Caribbean ports of call before crossing the Atlantic. Often, the port calls are all on the other side of the pond. You can be on this cruise for as low as $699 per person.

The Cruise

adventure of the seas royal caribbean transatlantic cruise

Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas embarks from Miami, Florida at 4:30 pm on Sunday, April 20, 2014 for a 14 night Transatlantic Repositioning Cruise to her summer home in Europe. Adventure arrives in Southampton in the United Kingdom at 5:30 am on Sunday, May 4. Along the way, she makes four port calls, three in the Caribbean and one in the Azores Islands of Portugal.

After leaving Miami, Adventure of the Seas doesn’t travel far, docking at Nassau, Bahamas on Monday, April 21. She remains docked at the largest city in the Bahamas from 8am until 5pm. After a day at sea, the ship arrives at San Juan, Puerto Rico on Wednesday, April 23 and is docked from 12 noon until 9pm.

The final stop before crossing the Atlantic is at Philipsburg on the island of Sint Maarten. Philipsburg is located on the Dutch side of the two nation island. However, to visit the French side is just a short cab ride away. Adventure of the Seas is docked at Philipsburg, Sint Maarten from 8am until 5pm on Thursday, April 24.

After five full days at sea, Adventure reaches Ponta Delgada on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores. She is docked at the largest port in the islands belonging to Portugal from 7am until 5pm. After leaving Ponta Delgada, the ship spends another three full days at sea before arriving at Southampton.

The Price

Right now, an inside stateroom can be had for as low as $699 per person in Canadian dollars, based on double occupancy. There is an additional $110 per person in government fees and taxes. The total price for two in an interior stateroom starts from $1,618, including taxes.

However, from there, the price goes through the roof. I assume this has to do with the close to a week in the Caribbean before heading across the Atlantic. Ocean View staterooms start at $1,319 per person while a balcony starts at $1,619 per person. The price for a suite starts at $2,829 per person.

Royal Caribbean is trying to sweeten the pot for those wanting a cabin at a higher level than an inside. If booked over the phone before February 28, guests are eligible for up to $300 in credits per stateroom. This does not apply to any online booking.

The Ship

Adventure of the Seas was built by STX Finland and made her maiden voyage in November, 2001. Adventure is one of five Royal Caribbean Voyager Class ships. The Voyager Class were built between 1999 and 2003. Adventure of the Seas is the middle child with Voyager of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas coming before while Navigator of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas came after.

Cruise On The Royal Princess From Just $549

Put in service in 2013 and one of the top ten largest cruise ships on the high seas, Royal Princess is the latest big thing in cruising and the new flag ship of the Princess Cruises fleet. Because of the novelty of the new ship and the big to-do that Kate Middleton christened her, pricing is set at a higher level than the rest of the Princess ships.

Typically, her Eastern Caribbean itinerary starts at anywhere from $699 to $1,200 per person. For a limited time, an interior stateroom can be had for as low as from $549 per person.

The Cruise

royal princess eastern caribbean cruise

The Royal Princess embarks on this seven night Eastern Caribbean cruise from Port Everglades at Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at 4pm on Sunday, January 5, 2014. Because of the size of the ship, the typical Princess Eastern Caribbean itinerary is reduced to three port calls from four. The ship is unable to dock at Grand Turk.

On Monday, January 6, 2014, Royal stops at Princess Cays from 9am to 5pm. Princess Cays is a private beach at the southern tip of the Bahamas island of Eleuthera. There is no pier for ships to dock at so they must moor a ways away from shore and tender guests to the island on board smaller boats.

Royal Princess then travels south overnight and the following day to reach Charlotte Amalie on the island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Royal docks in St. Thomas harbour on Wednesday, January 8 from 8am to 6pm. The highlights of the island include shopping and a trip to other side of the island to visit the famous Magens Bay Beach. Have you seen ‘Weekend at Bernie’s 2’? If yes, you will recognize Magens Bay immediately.

Her final port call is at Philipsburg on the Dutch side of the island of Sint Maarten. Another shopping mecca, Sint Maarten is also home to Princess Juliana International Airport. The airport is famous for jumbo jets flying mere feet above the beach before landing.

The Price

Currently, Princess has a flash fare sale on this cruise with interior staterooms starting at $549 per person. This equates to $78.43 per person per night. Once she heads to Europe for the summer, the lowest price on Royal Princess starts at between $200 to $400 per person per night. One of her 10 to 11 night cruises on the other side of the Atlantic cannot be had for less the $2,300 per person before taxes are added.

With the $95 per person in government fees and taxes added, an interior stateroom for two can be had for $1,288 total. Normally, Eastern Caribbean cruises on Royal Princess start from $699 to $1,200 for the same interior stateroom. It should also be noted that the flash fare rate is available on all of Royal’s January cruises while still available.

The Ship

royal princess cruise ship
Royal Princess made her maiden voyage on June 16, 2013 after being christened by a pregnant Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. Royal is the first of two Royal Class ships in the Princess Cruises fleet. Regal Princess is coming sometime in 2014 and will be nearly identical.

Built by Fincantieri on the northern Adriatic shores of Italy, Royal Princess has a gross tonnage of 141,000, making her the ninth largest cruise ship by weight on the high seas today. She is 330 metres or 1,083 feet long, making her the 13th longest cruise ship.

Passenger capacity on Royal is 3,560. There are 19 decks on the ship with 15 accessible to passengers.
